Newsletter - Week beginning Monday July 15th 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

This is our last newsletter of the year. It has been a very busy and successful year and I would like to congratulate the children on their achievements. Once again our end of year 2 results are very good. All of our end of Year 2 results are well above last year’s national results (2019 national results are not out yet). This means our Year 2 children are well equipped for the next stage in their academic careers.

Thank-you to all our parents and carers for your excellent support this year, notably those of you who have helped on school visits, our reading champions, our librarians as well as our regular volunteers. I look forward to seeing many of you at our thank-you coffee afternoon today.

I would also like to thank all my staff for their hard work and commitment ensuring  the children have enjoyed their year and made good progress.

I would also like to thank our Governors for their excellent support and being a very good “critical friend” behind the scenes.

It is always a time to say goodbye and we bid farewell to our super Year 2 children as they head off on the next stage of their life’s journey.

We also say farewell and good luck to some members of staff.

Miss Beth Morris has taught at this school for 8 years. She is an outstanding professional who is always smiling. She started here as an NQT (newly qualified teacher) in Year 1 and became Year 1 leader and later Year 2 leader. She is getting married this summer and then is off travelling round the world with her husband. Wow! We wish her all the best and we will all miss her very much.

Miss Hannah Newman has taught here for three years in Year 1 and Year R. It has been lovely having her at SIS and we wish her all the best for the future.

Miss Florence Kinchin has taught here for the past year in Year R. She is off to work in a brand new school which will be an interesting experience for her. It has been lovely having her at SIS and we wish her all the best.

Mrs Susan Bunyan has worked here as a lunchtime supervisor and breakfast club organiser for 5 years. We all wish her well.

Thank-you to them all!!

YEAR 2 BIKEABILITY

Please note that Bikeability has now finished for our Year 2 children. We are so proud of them all and notably those children who have now cast away their stabilisers!

YEAR 1 TITANIC LIVING MUSEUM AND THE YEAR R MINIBEAST PROJECT FINALE FOR PARENTS AND CARERS

Thank-you to everyone who came along. They were super and the children (and staff!) thoroughly enjoyed them too.

SUMMER FAMILY FUN EVENT

What a super afternoon and the sun shone too! Thank-you to everyone for coming along and supporting the school. A HUGE thank-you to SHINE and everyone who helped to make it so successful. We will let you know asap what we raised.

THANK-YOU COFFEE AFTERNOON

If you have helped in anyway at all this year you are warmly invited to a coffee/tea refreshments afternoon today (Monday) from 2.30–3.15pm in the school hall.

YEAR 2 LEAVERS’ ASSEMBLIES

This Wednesday and Thursday we are having our end of Year 2 leavers’ assembly. All of the tickets and information has already been sent out. Crèche opens in the music and drama room at 1.45pm. Tissues at the ready!!

YEAR 2 LEAVERS’ DISCO

This Thursday, July 18th, we are hosting a disco for Year 2 children from 6pm until 7pm in the school hall. School are funding this event as a well done to all of our Year 2 children. Please note we do not need any help for this and other siblings are not able to stay. Thank-you.

TAPESTRY

Year R parents - reminder that once your child leaves Reception (Year R) they will be removed from the Tapestry system. By now you should have received the email notification asking you to download their journal from the database. If you would like to download a copy of your child’s journal please do so before the end of term.

AMAZON WISHLIST

At a recent parents’ meeting it was suggested that we start up an Amazon wish list to develop our resources in school. We have begun this process and our list contains carefully selected books and resources which we know will greatly benefit your children and the school. These lists will be regularly updated by staff, can be accessed by anyone and we've made it really easy to use this to help your school. You can choose to get the resources delivered directly to the school office, or if you wish you can add it to your personal shopping and simply bring it into the school office. Thank-you in anticipation!
