NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents and Carers,

SPORTS AFTERNOONS THIS WEEK.

We are planning to re -schedule the sports event for each year group as follows:

Tuesday July 11th 2.00- 3.00 Year R

Thursday July 13th 2.00- 3.00 Year 1

Monday July 17th 2.00 – 3.00 Year 2

Same arrangements as before. Let’s hope the weather behaves this time…!

SCOOTER CHALLENGE.

This week- Monday 26th – Friday June 30th.

The challenge is to get as many children as possible scooting to school every day from 26th -30th June. The three schools with the highest average number of children scooting will win a Scooterpod. Everyone participating will receive a My Journey sticker and one lucky pupil from each winning school will win a family day out in Hampshire. If your child would like to scoot to school during this week then please note the following:

  • All children must be accompanied to school by a responsible adult

  • When on site children must walk round to their class. Scooters must NOT be ridden on site.

  • Children and adults must keep to the paths and NOT go onto the school field, play-trail or all- weather surface.

  • All scooters must be taken home in the morning and NOT left on the school site

Apologies for the late notice of this event, but we have only just received the information ourselves.

Last year we won so we already have one scooter pod. We will be installing this as soon as the modular classroom has been installed. Thank-you for your patience regarding this.

RSPB ASSEMBLY.

Today the children had a super assembly led by Martin Shears from the RSPB. He visits each term to tell the children all about how the RSPB supports birds and small animals. The assemblies are very informative and the children really enjoy them. If the children want to,

they can buy enamelled pin badges of animals and birds. They are in the school

office and are £1 each. All proceeds go to the RSPB charity.

PROKICK CHALLENGE.

We had a super day on Friday with Matt Paterson from Prokick –the weather was perfect (phew!!) and all of the children behaved superbly and had great fun trying hard to see who could

kick the ball the hardest into the net. Matt, a professional footballer, donates a lot of his time to the Prokick Charity. He used to play for Saints and his claim to fame was that he got sent off whilst playing against Man Utd!! Some of our ardent Saints fans may recall this (my son certainly remembers it!!). He was fantastic with the children and really inspired them.

UPDATE RE INSTALLATION OF NEW CLASS AND SITE ACCESS.

As you will know by now we are having an extra Year R class this September. The new Year R class will use the classrooms currently used by classes 8 and 9. We are having a modular classroom sited where the garden plots currently are situated. These will be for two Year 2 classes. Works will start Monday July 10th to sort the compound, ground works etc. The modular classroom will be installed in the summer holidays.

Like you I have been frustrated with the current access arrangements to the classes. This came about because we swapped the music and drama room and two year 2 classes over to ensure Year 2 were not disturbed during the building works. The building project has now not happened but this has meant that all parents/ carers have to go around the school to access the classes. Accessing the classes via the gate in the car park by Year R is not an option due to health and safety reasons. We have agreed with the local authority that the current pathway must be widened and improved. This will significantly ease access around the site and to the modular classrooms. This will happen ready for September.

Once this has been completed we can also site our scooter pod (we couldn’t do this before because we had to wait until the project was completed to figure out the best place to site them).

Thank-you for your patience and understanding, it’s much appreciated.

FAMILY FUN EVENT.

Our Family Fun event will take place on Friday 14th July, 3.15 -5.15pm. There will be lots of stalls and things to buy, but we will need volunteers to be on the stalls. Everything will be set up for you, so if you are able to assist for half an hour during the afternoon, please let Mrs Kesterson know, we would be very grateful. Also, if any families have a small gazebo we can borrow to put stalls under, please also contact Mrs Kesterson. We need quite a few! Many thanks.
