Special Educational Needs
Our aim is for all children to reach their full potential. Some children may need a little extra support to achieve this.
Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO), Mrs Clare Upton Jones, line manages an excellent team of highly skilled support staff and special needs assistants to support children in a small group or individual basis. She offers a drop-in special needs discussion clinic every Monday morning (8.30 – 9.30 am). No appointment needed.
We have a designated excellently resourced Special Needs Area called “The Butterfly Room” to enable individual and small group work to be undertaken away from the classroom as necessary.
Special Educational Needs includes very able children. We have an ABCo –able child co-ordinator who supports staff to enable our very able children to achieve their full potential, broaden their learning and improve their ability to apply skills. We identify these children early on and if it is considered appropriate specific learning programmes are planned to meet their specific needs.
Our SENCO is also our ELSA –emotional literacy support assistant and provide extra personal, social and emotional support to individuals and small groups of children. We have a special room beautifully equipped for our ELSA and children to use. This is called “The Sunshine Room”.
A summary of our SEN Policy is contained within our Appendices on Page 37.
