Welcome to Shakespeare Infant School!
On behalf of the children, staff and governors I would like to warmly welcome you to Shakespeare Infant School and our school website. My name is Jane Skinner and I am very proud to be the headteacher of this outstanding school.
Shakespeare Infant School is a wonderful place to be a learner. It is an outstanding school in so many ways.
Our children do amazingly well and make accelerated progress and attain highly –significantly above children nationally. This is consistent, year on year. They are polite, well mannered, well behaved and enjoy being at this school. We often receive compliments regarding their conduct both within school and when out and about. If you came to visit this school you would find happy, smiling children busy learning and who would, I am sure, open a door for you and display super manners. You may see our Year 2 children helping others at lunchtime when it is their turn to be a Playground Pal or Lunch Bunch helper.
Our curriculum is amazing. It is based upon exciting and engaging integrated projects which inspire our children to want to learn. It is very well resourced- my staff all love curriculum retail therapy! Each project has a hook and a meaningful outcome which gives purpose and context to their learning. As a staff we spend a lot of time reviewing our curriculum to make it better and better. We ask the children what they think about their learning opportunities and how to improve what we offer. We have lots of trips as well as visitors and wonderful in school opportunities eg we have a planetarium in the hall when our year 1 children learn all about space. It’s fabulous! Look on our website under the curriculum tab for more information. We invest in high quality PE, including opportunities to play competitive sport, and music tuition for all. We offer a very wide range of extra curricula activities during the day and after school. Please see the section all about clubs on the website.
Our learning values underpin all we do. We have six learning values: thinking, independence, creativity, spirituality, collaboration, emotional intelligence. Each learning value is represented with a puppet which helps the children to develop these learning values. We plan for opportunities to learn and demonstrate them within our academic and wider curriculum. So if your child comes home and says “I had a Bertie Bee sticker today!” you will know they have been a super thinker that day. Find out more on our website.
The partnership between home and school is fundamental to your child’s success. We will be asking for your support and there are lots of opportunities for you to get involved. Our fund raising committee (SHINE) is a great way to help and meet new friends (they always have yummy cakes at their meetings too!).
We all care deeply about our children and want the very, very best for each and every one of them. This is exemplified in our school motto “We Care” .
Thank-you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to meeting you and your child.
