Coronavirus update January 2021

31st December 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

Happy New Year to you.

Apologies for interrupting your well-deserved Christmas break but I would like to update you on the very latest guidance from the government concerning the move in Hampshire to Tier 4 Covid-19 restrictions. The government has made it a national priority that education should continue to operate as normal as possible during the coronavirus outbreak. This remains the default position for all areas irrespective of local restriction tiers.

All year groups at Shakespeare Infant School will return to school on Monday 4th January 2021 following the same, robust preventative measures as before. Any restrictions on education would only be as a last resort and may only be initiated following a ministerial decision.

Public Health England advise that children and young people continue to be at low risk from coronavirus (COVID-19) and the risk from the virus of severe disease and death to children and young people is very low. The balance of risk is overwhelmingly in favour of children and young people remaining in education. While it is not possible to ensure that any working environment is totally risk-free, there is reassuring evidence that staff working in education settings are not at higher risk than workers in other sectors. The latest study we have from Public Health England is that Covid infections among children are triggered by changes in the community rate and this is where we must remain vigilant.

From Monday, for us, it will be assumed that all pupils will attend. In the very unlikely event that evidence supports limiting attendance in Infant schools, DfE may advise that only vulnerable children and children of critical workers should be allowed to attend.

it is incredibly important to inform school immediately if your child is unable to attend school for reasons pertaining directly to Covid-19 e.g. they have tested positive for C-19, they have been in direct contact with someone who has tested positive, they display clear symptoms of C-19.

Please continue to arrive only at your allocated staggered drop off and pick up times and wear a face mask on the school site at all times.  The main pupil school gate will be closed at 8.55am  promptly from  Monday 4th January 2021. All communication must continue via email or telephone calls to either the class email address or admin office.  Your children will continue to wash their hands upon arrival to school and numerous times during the day. Classrooms will remain well ventilated so your children can continue to wear additional warm clothing to school underneath their school jumper/cardigan. Class bubbles for learning, play and mealtimes will continue.

We have so far, been very successful in maintaining a sense of “new normality.”  This has been through your commitment in ensuring your children attend school and the dedication of all staff to ensure the children are learning as safely as possible within a safe environment.   As always, our school community, our staff team and I count on your continued support.  Please contact the school office if you require any further information.
