Covid Measures in School

Dear Parents/Carers,                                                                                  14 October 2020

I understand you may have concerns over the safety of your children with the single confirmed Coronavirus case in school.   I’d like to reassure you with a reminder about the many preventative measures that are robustly in place:

  • Children sanitise or wash hands when they enter the classroom in the mornings
  • Classroom tables are cleaned throughout the day
  • Each child has their own resources in a clearly named zippy bag
  • When practical resources are used in class they are kept in a box/container for that group of children for the week and are then sanitised
  • Toys/games/puzzles/construction blocks etc are used on a weekly rota, then sanitised or quarantined for a week until they can be used again
  • Library books are brought to the children and when returned, they are quarantined by Mrs Daniel
  • Playtime and lunchtimes are staggered so class bubbles do not mix together
  • Year R children eat their lunch in the hall, their lunchtimes are staggered and they sit in their own bubble space
  • Key Stage 1 children eat their lunch in the classroom – tables are cleaned before and after lunch
  • Each class has their own Midday Supervisor at lunchtime and there is a timetable for zoned areas in which the children play so, again, they do not mix bubbles
  • Hands are washed before/after playtimes/any time after being outside
  • Early Bird and Breakfast club attendees wash hands as they enter school and before they go to their classrooms and all toys are quarantined on a rota basis
  • The Hampshire Music teacher and the two Sports Coaches follow all school safety measures and teach at a 2m distance from the children.  Any instruments used are sanitised before the next class uses them
  • Mr Day uses the Fogging Machine every night and sanitises classrooms and communal areas such as the corridors on a strict rota basis
  • All light switches, door handles, telephones and IT equipment are cleaned daily
  • Mrs Bright has been employed for additional cleaning hours and cleans all toilet areas after lunch
  • The cleaning hours have also been increased in the evenings

  • All parents and visitors to the school site must wear a face covering or display an exempt lanyard/badge
  • Children are outside as much as possible – please remember to send them into school with a warm, waterproof coat
  • Parents evenings were conducted via Zoom
  • Assemblies take place in the children’s own classroom so they do not gather together in the hall
  • Teachers professional development via Hampshire County Council has taken place virtually to reduce teachers having to meet in different locations
  • We have our Remote Learning Contingency plan in place of which you are aware and all pupils have access to Google Classrooms and we will be setting work for children who have to self-isolate

The school environment looks somewhat different now – teachers and support staff are often seen wiping tables, cleaning and sterilising equipment and hanging it out to dry in laundry bags.  This adds somewhat to their workload but is necessary under these circumstances and everyone is more than happy to play their part.

If you have any other queries or concerns please contact the school office rather than relying on social media which can often be misconstrued and give you mixed messages.

Thank you for your understanding during these challenging times.

Yours sincerely

Mrs Nikki Wilson

Headteacher
