RE special places – Us

Talk to children about special places and ask the children where they like to go that is special to them. Do they like to go to their bedroom to read or play? Perhaps into the garden to build a den? Perhaps they like to go to the park and ride their bike. Why does that feel so special to them? How do they feel when they go to these places?

Complete sheet. Children can draw a picture of themselves in their special place and write a short sentence at the bottom.

RE special places – Christians

Remind children of the place they chose as their special place and the reasons why they think it is special. Discuss that Christian people also have a special place. Read the PowerPoints and discuss special places. What makes them special and why. Talk about Christians and their special places. Show pictures on PowerPoint and discuss why they are special. Complete sheet by drawing a picture of Christians special place. Why is it special to them?

Children can draw a picture and write a short sentence at the bottom.

End of year reflection

End of year writing. Talk to children about their time in Year 1. Even though it was a bit strange. Think about their friends, their favourite moments, lessons or activities. Did they like learning about The Gingerbread Man and exploring Boyatt Wood to look for him, baking gingerbread men, or when the police drove onto the playground to take The Gingerbread Man back to the bakery?

Did they enjoy the dinosaur topic and when the Dinosaur Workshop came to school? Perhaps they enjoyed shouting "Dino Poo!" as they stomped around the hall pretending to be a dinosaur?

Perhaps they enjoyed learning about different countries when Betsy Butterfly flew around the world on her Grand Adventure? Did they enjoy drawing a postcard of London on the iPad and writing a postcard to The Queen?

Perhaps they enjoyed the space topic and learning about all of the planets in the solar system? Perhaps they liked doing the space gym the best or practising the space dance in the hall? Maybe they liked it when the Planetarium visited the school and they say inside the dome and 'zoomed to the moon'?

Perhaps you enjoyed something different! Discuss all of these different things with your child and let them decide what they liked doing and what their favourite memories are. Help them to fill in the reflection sheet.
