Week Beginning 15.6

Dear Year 1

Thank you again for working so hard. It has been lovely to see all of the work you have been doing at home!

This week, we have included some videos for you to watch. You will be able to see them if you scroll down.

These should help you with phonics and handwriting. We know so many of you have improved your handwriting, so we will now be awarding Handwriting Certificates to children who have been using their beautiful Shakespeare handwriting when doing their work!

It has been very busy here, at school so we may not be able to reply to your emails immediately. But we will answer them as soon as we can.

We miss you very much!

Weekly overview

English

English- We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. If you do not have a copy of the book, watch Mrs Hellier read the story in the video below or watch the following clip on YouTube.

The idea is to become familiar with the story. Children should be able to hear the rhythm of the words, the repeating patters, expand their vocabulary and hear the ‘sounds’ that the words make as they are said.

Read the story together, join in with familiar or repeated parts of the story. Explain that the children are going on a bear hunt. Follow bear footprints through the house, local park/woods or garden (footprints made from paper/card, or drawn in chalk).

Hide soft toy bears for the children to find on their bear hunt (use your garden, the house, the local woodland)

Encourage the children to explain verbally where the bear is, eg It’s on the branch, under the table, behind the bench.
