Physical Education

At Shakespeare Infant School, we believe Physical Education should inspire children to develop the confidence, competence and enjoyment needed to lead active and healthy lives. In a world where increasingly sedentary lifestyles can impact children's wellbeing, we are committed to ensuring that every child develops the physical literacy, resilience and motivation needed to thrive both in and beyond school.

Children learn and practise fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, balancing, sending and receiving, developing fluency through regular practice and repetition. Learning builds progressively from EYFS through to Year 2, allowing children to master essential skills and apply them confidently across a range of physical activities, games and sports.

We provide a safe, stimulating and inclusive environment where children are encouraged to challenge themselves, take risks and celebrate personal achievement. Through PE, children learn to evaluate their own performance, support and encourage others, and understand that effort, perseverance and practice lead to success.

Physical Education plays an important role in developing the whole child. Alongside physical skills, children learn valuable life skills including teamwork, cooperation, leadership, respect and resilience. They develop an understanding of healthy lifestyles and recognise the positive impact that physical activity has on both their physical and emotional wellbeing.

Through our broad PE curriculum, active play opportunities and extracurricular sporting experiences, we aim to foster a lifelong love of physical activity. We want every child to leave Shakespeare Infant School as a confident, active and reflective learner who values their health, embraces new challenges and understands the importance of being part of a caring and supportive community.
