For in year applications, you will be notified of a school place within 10 school days and notified in writing within 15 school days. 

Admission to School for children with Special Educational Needs

The school application processes described on these webpages do not apply to children with a statement of special educational needs (SEN) or education, health and care (EHC) plan. If your child has a statement of SEN or an EHC plan, please refer to the advice on the dedicated SEN pages.

Admission to Year R (Reception) September 2027

If your child was born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023, they will be eligible to start school in the school year beginning September 2027

How it works

• You can name up to three schools on your application,, in order of preference
• Your child is added to a list for each of the schools you have named. Each schools list is then ranked in accordance with the published admission criteria for that school to determine whether they are able to offer a place
• If only one of your preferred schools can offer a place, you will be allocated a place at that school
• If your child qualifies for a place at more than one school, the one ranked highest on your application will be allocated
• If none of your preferred schools can offer a place, you will be allocated a place at the catchment school (if places remain) or the nearest school (measured as a straight line) with a place available. You will also be advised of the arrangements for placing your child on the waiting list and your right of appeal

Can I appeal if I am unhappy with the allocated school place?

You have the right of appeal to an independent appeal panel against the refusal of a place at any higher preference school named on your application where you were unsuccessful.
